Summer Camp – 2021
Days and times TBD. We will finalize camp details by early February, 2021.
Sun, water, kids in fast boats: what’s not to like? Learn to paddle these sleek, light, challenging racing boats in our week long introductory camp. Try it on the Petaluma River, and if you like it, join our racing team, the River Town Racers, and paddle year around.
No prior kayaking experience is necessary but paddlers must be able to swim.
Open to girls and boys ages 11-17.
This camp is required for membership into the River Town Racers Club & access to year around racing and world class training for all graduates.
The team is currently working on determining the camp format, cost and total number of paddlers we will take.
If you are interested in attending the camp, please provide us with some details below. We will reach out to you with further information once we have a better idea how the camp will run in 2021!
Should you sign up?
Kayak sprint is an exciting Olympic sport and it starts with an Introduction to Kayak Racing clinic where young people are invited to discover if this sport might be for them.
If during the clinic you show enthusiasm, curiosity, energy, perseverance, and ability to participate in a group (plus, you don’t mind falling in the water while you’re learning), you may be invited to join the club’s ongoing development program. Then, you and your family members will become active participants for training, clinics, and racing year-round, as well as social events and team travel. In River Town Racers, every athlete progresses toward his or her racing goals at their own pace, through a sequence of increasingly demanding levels. You’ll start by developing the skills and fitness to compete in Northern California, and, hopefully, continue racing regionally, nationally, and possibly internationally.
It’s a commitment, because nobody becomes a great kayak racer overnight or without family support. Many athletes don’t discover how much they like it until they’ve got their feet wet, and other parts of their bodies too. We just hope that you will be one of those people who wakes up one morning and says, “Mom, Dad, I’ve found my sport.” If you think there’s a chance that’ll happen, you should sign up for the clinic.
